[edit] Question

Hello, I am Concerned Citizen and I am assuming this is how we communicate with one another through wiki? I'm kind of new to this whole thing. Anyways I was a bit unclear how my image violated the rules for my guild. Does the image have to be an image of something from Rift?

Also my guild I added which you removed the banner from, it doesn't show on the guild list for that server. How can I rectify this?

Thanks. --Concerned Citizen Talk, 15:10 25 March 2011 (GMT+1)

[edit] Tooltips

Okay. I was just seeing if it was that easy and it would work quickly like that. Unfortunately, it wasn't. I'm not good at all with javascript so I won't be able to help you with that. I've never used tooltips before and was hoping to watch the development of them here (where I will be active) to help them be added to my wiki, where I'm a sysop. I'm very good with templates within the wiki, but once you get into the php, css, and js files, you've lost me. Although I have been getting better at it over the last few months, I am far from an expert.

--Potroast42 09:15, 18 January 2011 (CST)

Did you have this working? I saw some messages in IRC which I didn't get. If so, what do I need to do on the wiki so the ilink stuff works? --Ciovala Talk 16:40, 24 January 2011 (CST)
Hey Ciovala, yes it works on the beta wiki. What needs to be done is the config of live pushed over to jQuery. :) Maygus talk cont 20:36, 24 January 2011 (CST)
Ahh. Unfortunately that means running the 1.17 testing branch of MediaWiki I think. So it won't coexist at all with yui? --Ciovala Talk 01:24, 25 January 2011 (CST)
What I've read is yui 2 won't work with jQuery very nice. Yui 3 does. However if the YUI was the tabs etc, that can be done easily enough within jQuery...
Well I'm going to try the 1.17 version of MediaWiki when we're moving the site to a new server (very very soon) and if everything works it'll be turned on. :D --Ciovala Talk 01:50, 27 January 2011 (CST)

[edit] Thanks

Thank you for the suggestion, I'm new to this. Did you have a particular naming convention in mind? Help me out here... JoeBlue 11:00, 18 January 2011 (CST)

ok, I think I found it- I've used some plural forms for titles. What's the best solution to this mistake? Moving (renaming) the pages? JoeBlue 11:12, 18 January 2011 (CST)
Got it, Maygus, Thanks

[edit] Item Template

The 'requires' part of the item template isnt working. i had a fiddle with it, and in your template, you have to use the following

|level= |call= |rep=

rather than |requires=

Rhyket 16:45, 18 January 2011 (CST)

My fault. I put in level / call / rep and forgot to leave the |requires option in.

Sorry the documentation needs to be updated to reflect all the new variables we put in. Maygus talk cont 18:23, 18 January 2011 (CST)

[edit] Rename a Category?

I made a mistake in creating the Category:Attributes (it should not be plural). But I cannot move that page like I would another. How can we fix this?JoeBlue 23:33, 18 January 2011 (CST)

There's a down arrow you can click at the top, it has the 'move' options in there. Alternatively flag it with {{delete| reason }} where reason is why it should be deleted, and just move the contents to a new one. :) But in this case. Categories can be plural So leave that. It's Main page Articles that should be singular. Maygus talk cont 23:48, 18 January 2011 (CST)

[edit] Other External Resources

I was wondering, seeing other sites with little "other resources" links linking to other fansite wikis, maybe we can get here something like that? maybe a templated item to chuck at the bottom of the page. that when you click on it, it can use the external sites search function. heres an example of what I'm thinking.

http://rift.zam.com/wiki/rift_mob:Armond_Santiago

They have down there a link to Telarapedia and google, apparently its some kind of wikicode that confuses me but I saw you make templates so im sure you know what it means. maybe we could have a template that automatically makes a box and small links to search external fansites and google in case we don't have all the info here yet?

They have this "Other Resources" box on all their mob and ability pages i saw on their site and thought it may be a good idea to have on here. To help others see Telarapedia and think "if they dont have it, they have links to others what might" 114.241.165.129 05:30, 19 January 2011 (CST)

Hey there anon. That is something more feasible and reasonable. The knee-jerk reaction was simple something we saw happening that looked to be trending badly. I'll see how we can possibly implement something similar in the coming day or two. For now if you do a === External Links === section at the bottom of related pages and link sites in the format of [siteurl flavourtext] -- [http://google.com/ Google Search] that's more than reasonable. Just the use of <ref> was happening from a few different people in a manner that prob shouldn't have. Maygus talk cont 05:37, 19 January 2011 (CST)
Thanks for the speedy response. You guys seem quite friendly for the newbie editors. I'll see what I can do during my research amongst the next beta, possibly get around to finally signing up lol. 114.241.165.129 05:45, 19 January 2011 (CST)

From looking at screenshots I think Salvage for Armorsmiths and Outfitter is the same, as they both read "Salvage Requires Salvage Armor (#)"

Why are you having a space before the close of </span> That throws off formatting so links come out like this [LINK NAME] . It looks odd. o.o Curious.

[edit] SMW CSS colors

The background color for RSS feed boxes is still white. They show up when editing pages below the edit text box. I don't know if they are visible anywhere when just viewing pages. --Mardur 08:10, 4 February 2011 (CST)

Hurm, let me look. Also for some reason the .css changes don't update properly. Somethings botched up in the backend at the moment with "MediaWiki:" namespace changes. It's being looked at. Maygus talk cont 08:22, 4 February 2011 (CST)
just shift reload after changes. But if someone tells me what styles need changing ill put them in the actual css file. --Ciovala Talk 09:42, 4 February 2011 (CST)
It hasn't been the last few days for me. Takes time to work, same thing with setting a Sitenotice / incrementing sitenotice_id and the .js remember? It's the cache getting messed up for some reason. But rather than put everything into the .css files directly, we should use the MediaWiki: .css pages so that we can easily update them down the track. Maygus talk cont 09:45, 4 February 2011 (CST)

[edit] Guild addition

Having issues with creating the details for my guild either via the form, or manually adding it.

Seems that http:// heretic. mmoguildsites. com (I'm guessing it's the mmoguildsites.com part that's the issue) is triggering some spam filter creation.

Makes me posting a question about how to get this resolved fun, no less, since that also triggers it.

These are a bunch of crusty old farts - can someone give me the scoop as to how to get this rectified?

Cheers:) Pri 21:25, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Maygus (or others) there seems to be several posts in the forum regarding guilds being created but not showing up on the shard page(some fixed, some not), im more than a little confused by what is needed to resolve the guilds showing up, and as i suspect that more than a few people will come here for their guilds it would be a good idea to get it working, issues as i see it at the moment are, servers/shard not showing on the guild template, even when manually adding the server it doesnt put the guild on the shard page (is that just a case of a missing redirect? [edit] Crafting Materials

Hi there,

Just started updating some bits relating to crafting (specifically the mining profession) and noticed the following couple of oddities.

Firstly, there appears to be no way to add the line Crafting Material under the name section, I have included the type=Crafting Material and it still does nothing?

Secondly, the item tool tip has recently started showing text asking for Item Requirements / Level / Class etc.. and I cannot find a way to stop these showing. This would make sense if the item was a piece of armour or weapon, however the bars and ore only have a level required to harvest / forge them and this does not seem to be avaliable as an option (its not shown in the game when looking at the tooltip so is more relevant manually entered on the main mining page table).
[If you look at [Tin Bar] for example you can see what I mean]

I did post this into Ciovala's talk section and was directed to this being the better place to have these comments.
Sythril 22:14, 21 February 2011 (GMT)

Just thought I would post this here as well, that I think I may have fixed your second issue, as it was a comment that was not closed correctly within the template. I closed it, and it appears to have gone away. Let me know if I've fixed it. Ashfang 22:51, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
I noticed that it had gone so thought someone must be playing with the template :) Any thoughts on the first part?
Sythril 22:56, 21 February 2011 (GMT)
I unfortunately don't have the skills necessary to make it appear. And if I tried I'd most likely end up breaking a very integral template. Something which I'm not prepared to do. Sorry. :( Ashfang 22:59, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

There is no 'type=Crafting Material' - Template:Item lists currently available types within an items. It's addable, but definitely discretionary by the admins.|| Pri 01:15, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

An addendum (I should have mentioned this before): in the forums, there is a sticky post in administration for form requests. I had taken the liberty to post the type-Crafting Material query there; that is where form requests would go. || Pri 01:19, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

OK thanks for that, its not a big problem however if the idea is to make it look like the game then this would be needed. @Ashfang - Thanks for that and I completely understand you not wanting to break something that works if your not completely sure you can add this item.
Sythril 06:51, 22 February 2011 (GMT)
Just so you all know Maygus has enabled the type=crafting within the Items (not sure if its mentioned in the forum post mentioned above), working perfectly for me on the outfitting items im adding :)Larryl0099 talk cont 13:50, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Guild list on Shard pages

Hey - can you tweak it so it doesn't show the SMW properties in the generated list on shard pages? --Maygus

I thought it might be nice to add the faction to the list. Do you prefer a plain list of guilds (without faction) or is it that "(Guild Faction ...)" disturbing you? I can remove the property name "Guild Faction" from the output (here). --Mardur 13:42, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
I updated the list a little bit to display the faction logo in front of the name. Looks quite cool. --Mardur 14:31, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

[edit] The coords template

Hello there! I see you're the creator of the coords template.

I've been recently working on listing out artifact locations for the various areas in the game. The coords template - while fantastic - is somewhat limiting when wanting to list multiple locations on the map. I know that there is a demand for a multiple artifact location display on a map after reading some comments over on the official forums. I'm happy to have a go at working out another template that can show multiple locations on a map at once (though my wikitext is very rusty). What I really want to know is - would there be any issues with my using the maps/images that are used by the current coords template? Thanks! Lyger talk 10:29, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Coords is more for individual location listings, there are other solutions which would be good for multiple locations however these do not exist on the wiki at this point. Imagemap for one, or perhaps a static image with locations marked on them manually. IE: Photoshop or similar. Maygus talk cont 10:31, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Cheers for the speedy response! I'll have a look into the other solutions you mentioned. I'm a bit reluctant to do the manual picture idea, as at this early stage of the game, new locations are being found all the time. Lyger talk 10:56, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Imagemap requires an extension on the wiki, which isn't on (yet). But it's also messy to work with as the formatting won't match game coords unfortunately... For now though {{coords}} is your best bet. If anything, group up multiple locations nearby and indicate it's a high-spawn artifact area or something. Maygus talk cont 11:00, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Ah, fair enough. Given that, I've currently borrowed the current coords template to sandbox something together that may work in the meantime (it's currently very messy and very much a work in progress as I get my head around wikitext once again). It's using a lot of the stuff from the coords template (as in, the images and the coordinates as figured out for Gloamwood) - is it ok to use them, or do I need to get my own version of the images uploaded? I'll happily delete what I've put together if it's a problem. Lyger talk 11:54, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Hey, I was thinking about the coords template, how to make it easier accessible for template authors (as in adding new maps/coordinate ranges) and how to make it handle multiple markers. The idea I came up with is to use the original coords template, expand it with the multiple markers idea and change the way the template handles the coordinates/image/zone names. The code to create the markers is moved to a separate template coords/marker to be called multiple times. For each zone, there would be another template coords/zone-name that returns the Zone page name, Zone image name and the 4 corner coordinates. Here is the result:

I added a test, whether the zone is existing (see last example). The multi-coords syntax is different from the old syntax, but the new template is fully compatible with the old syntax (when a third argument is given and equals an existing zone).

Sorry for the delayed response. I like this a lot, for the multiple coords, can prob call it {{mucoords}} ? Maygus talk cont 23:42, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
I was trying to make sure that the template works with both, the old syntax (123|456) as well as multiple coordinates (123,456;321,654). There is no need to make a new name. I would just replace it with the new one. --Mardur 02:05, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Extremely awesome sauce. Perfect for the individual artifact loc displays, I'll get the parser switched over to the new template ASAP :)Psiharis 17:54, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I will probably just replace the {{coords}} template with the new code soon. Meanwhile I was adding even more features: you can change the marker icon and set a tooltip for each location individually (I am not really satisfied with the "check mark" image). See the bottom of my talk page (mining lode positions) for an example, and the new and shiny {{MardurCoords}} documentation text about how to use it. For such detailed maps (artifacts, mining, ..), higher resolution pictures (image width = page width) would be nice. --Mardur 15:26, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
I've been watching from the sidelines due to RL issues but I have to say it's looking really amazing - keep up the great work! --Ciovala Talk 15:27, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
Just letting you know I've ported the coords + documentation template to the original {{coords}} I'll leave you move the other sub MardurCoords sub pages if you really want to, but it won't affect the immediate operation as it is.
Unfortunately this broke all but a few zones (Freemarch, Stonefield, I think one other I can't remember now...) so the majority of coords templates are spewing red errors right now. The documentation mentioned at some point that new templates just need to go through an extra edit/save, but ordinary users can't do this. Psiharis 07:18, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Other than edit/save on the main coords template, all other templates should be unlocked for anyone to edit/save on. Can you not do it yourself? Maygus talk cont 07:28, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Oh, that's a seperate issue. Did you get an e-mail to confirm your account for the wiki at all? (Also split this into seperate topic) Maygus talk cont 07:40, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Whoops, I didn't see my reply in the last discussion and thought I must have flaked and hit 'preview' instead of 'save.' :) No, I didn't e-mail verify. Is there documentation somewhere about the difference between e-mail verified users and non-? At signup all I recall was something about being able to recover my password later. Psiharis 07:44, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
E-mail verification means you can edit in the template namespace. It's a way to attempt spam bots from registering and editing template pages which can be considered 'sensitive' if you never got the e-mail though. I'll need to chase it up to get this resolved. Maygus talk cont 07:47, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
That sorted it, thanks! Maybe a note could be added to the registration page somewhere? I'm new to wikis and the thought never crossed my mind that registering with or without an e-mail address would matter beyond password retrieval. Psiharis 07:52, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Definitely, I thought it was on there, but I'll dig through the settings and update it to be sure. Maygus talk cont 07:54, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
I had that issue - turned out I needed to assign a valid email address to my wiki account. Maybe that will allow you to edit the template if you do that? Lyger talk 15:30, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Restrict Guild Page Editing

My guild is a bit aggressive in our dealing with others, and I don't want to allow anyone else to edit my guild's page save for myself. Is there anyway to lock it so that only you and I can edit it?

Thanks. --Concerned Citizen Talk, 22:23 25 March 2011 (GMT+1)

First, "A quick question" is a bad caption. Think about something that lets people know what you talk about already from the headline, like "restrict page editing?" or "I want to post aggressive and defamatory propaganda without other people being able to delete it".
Second, all pages (except for some few like the main page or critical templates) are open for editing by everyone. You see who is editing it, you can track changes and you can revert them. A Wiki lives from many people editing the pages, not from people maintaining their personal private pages exclusively.
Third, as for your guild page, the Wiki policies clearly talk about tolerance and respect for each other. If you are "a bit aggressive" against someone, consider NOT posting your opinion at all. Check out your talk page. I will only repeat here: Reformulate or delete your guild description if you want to avoid a delete request for your guild page and yourself. Asking for exclusive editing rights is a joke. Does that sound a bit aggressive to you? --Mardur 15:12, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
