[edit] Trion Official Timeline
Trion released an official timeline right as they released the Rift RP Exclusive Lore Q&A. The current formatting for this page doesn't really work with the new timline all that well. How should we change this page around to reflect it?
[edit] Time travel stuff
Just a heads-up to anyone who's thinking of working on the lore pages. There's some new info out regarding time travel - basically the defiant are now said to be from the future while the guardians are from the past. Something like that. The problem is that it contradicts a lot of existing lore, so I suspect that Trion may be planning to retcon the lore pages quite a bit. -Samil Talk 02:21, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
- And... I haven't included stuff from this new time travel lore. Going to wait and see what Trion does with the contradictions-Samil Talk 02:21, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
- "Guardian Ascended were resurrected the day that Aedraxis Mathos broke the Ward, the day the rifts came. The Vigil resurrected them on the battlefield from among the fallen in order to stop Aedraxis from fully destroying the Ward and bringing Regulos through. After they stopped Aedraxis, they were taken up to the Vigil to receive holy prophecy regarding the forestalling of the end." -MissDoomCookie
- The fallen that they're speaking of, according to the cinematic that ends the Guardian starting area, are from roughly 20 years before the Ward dropped - at least PC Guardian Ascended. The other take on the cinematic is that at the time of their death during the Shade War/Ward falling, these Ascendants were shown the future that would happen in 20 years, which is the starting area's storyline, before waking up as one of the Ascended.
- "Defiant Ascended are resurrected by machines on the last day of Telara. The Defiants, having no Ascended in the original timeline (except Asha Catari, but she was only powerful because of the power she took from Regulos), were defeated by the Guardians and retreated into their workshops to work on making their own Ascended. Once they discovered the means, they then scanned the Soulstream and netted those who seemed strong enough to survive the process. These individuals could have come from any point in history. They are then sent back to join in the fight by way of Orphiel's Falsafe device. Think of this device as a temporal anchor. You can't use it to go back and forth, just to that one moment in time that the machine was rooted." -MissDoomCookie
- This is where things get complicated. The Soulstream has no actual time to it- all the dead from every time period exist here, though it's unclear whether or not the unborn do as well; there was a bit of lore text in 1 - 20 betas (2, 3 & 4) talking about the fact that they cannot tell when/where a soul is from, just how strong it is. Further more, this takes place in an undisclosed period of time in the future. While the Defiants left Port Scion around 30 years prior to game launch, it seems that their Ascended from this doomed future were sent back to shortly after the beginning of the War for Telara (0 years before launch). The timeline project on Rift Junkies got that part wrong, I believe, just based on the start of the non-newbie area.
- Ultimately, the time travel thing is not breaking lore entirely, and the little bit of unknown factors that seem to point to it being so are being cleared up as more and more lore is released and the NDAs fall off the Beta Events. Also, the game has not launched yet, so technically Trion can change any part of the lore that they decide needs to be changed, until roughly the Head Start, without it actually breaking continuity since 0 will be the start of the War for Telara...which is Head Start.
- And it is posted up on the official forums, I'm waiting for a reply. If it does not get noticed that way, I'll be poking in PM next. ~Darkfae

[edit] Rift Junkies' Timeline Project
They're taking a stab at putting rough dates (at least by year) to everything, and so far a lot of it is making sense. View the interactive timline here. ~Darkfae
- I really don't like that someone has copied this stuff down. A wiki is factual and the RJ information is made up. There are almost no dates available other than some rough comments on millenia. --Ciovala Talk 07:19, 22 January 2011 (CST)
- They're apparently pulling it from interviews, and PMs/posts on the official forums; I was planning on re-copying it, tossing it up on the lore forums in full and asking about it later on today after I get home. ~Darkfae
- Odd since I've done a lot of googling and couldn't find exact dates. Either way we do need to find real sources for specific dates. It's ok for RJ to 'guess' but we need to try and be a source of verifiable information when possible. Thanks for your help! :) --Ciovala Talk 11:50, 22 January 2011 (CST)
- If they're getting the majority of their info out of PMs - which isn't unheard of, I've seen a lot of reposted PMs from MissDoomCookie - then it's not anything we'd be able to find searching ourselves. I really dislike the fact that they're not citing where they're getting it from on the timeline's page. I'm home now though, so I'm going to post up this format and ask how accurate it is. ~Darkfae

- I think we need a {{speculation}} template for times such as this where information is garned from bits and pieces and no exact concise info is available. Means people viewing will not all information is 100% verified and in turn they might realise to go "Oh, I know where that info came from" kinda thing. Maygus talk • cont 20:16, 5 February 2011 (CST)
[edit] Format of Timeline
I'm in the midst of an overhaul of this page. I'll be following the structure of this page from the Wikipedia. -Samil Talk 16:06, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
