Quote: Mar 4th 8:23 amYes, I play WoW and my main character there is a druid tank. I love it. I'm considering trying out RIFT, but want to know if the druid mechanics in RIFT are anything similar to that in WoW. Do they have alternate forms and are they able to "tank"?
Short answer:
No. No alternate forms. Could possibly tank as an off-tank and handle the easier stuff, but most people just go Warrior then instead of Cleric.
Long answer:
I'm afraid not. Mostly because the so called Calling that is Druid in RIFT, is not so much a class as you would see it in WoW, as it could be called a spec within the Cleric class.
In RIFT, you choose three callings, each unlocking what could be compared to a single talent tree in WoW. When you spend points in the tree of one of your callings you will get new spells and abilities unique for that calling. So one could say that instead of each calling being a class, they are each more of a way to tailoring your chosen class a certain way.
And on to the "alternate forms" question and tanking. The Druid calling in RIFT is a "Support" Meele DPS calling. It gives you some meele attacks, a fairy spellcasting pet, and some supportive spells like CC, dmg shield and curse diseases and such. It gives no ability to change shapes (sorry), so as a druid you stay "human" all the time, and when I think about it none of the other callings in the game gives you any ability to change into something either.
It's is not a calling you would mainly put points in as a Meele DPS Cleric, rather it is one you would put some minor points in as support. So this is not a calling you could tank with, and actually Cleric as a class is not a very "tank centric" class, more of a Healer/Meele DPS/Ranged Spell DPS class depending on what callings you pick. Though one of their callings, the Justicar, gets the ability to generate threat at level 12. The Justicar is quite defensive and self-heals, and is generally used to make the Meele DPS specced cleric solo better, but if specced right I suppose you could turn a Cleric into a pretty good "Off-tank" for tanking the easier stuff. But a player who want to focus on tanking would rather pick a Warrior.
Hope this helped. Good luck
