I put up some basic information on our guild using the guild template. However, it does not seem like I can edit anything to flesh it out. It appears it thinks I am editing the master guild template. Suggestions?

  • Edit* OK I figured out how to get back to edit ... by going through the ADD/EDIT process. But here is the problem. I believe two templates were created. The first time I went to add the guild, I wrote up this big page ... and there was an error on saving. This intial guild template was called THE SENTINELS. It did not appear to save and did not show up in the guild entries. So I create a new one SENTINELS ONLINE GAMING.

So I can get back to the page I created ... but it is entitled THE SENTINELS ... this guild template should be deleted?? The active guild entry should be SENTINELS ONLINE GAMING. Let me know if I need to do anything or provide additional info.

Ahhh... I see what you've done, you've only edited the content of the page.

The page name is still Guild:The Sentinels, did you want it changed to Guild:Sentinels Online Gaming? The issue there is if you are promoting more of a community, you'd be best off linked in Fansites, but that could be something Ciovala might want to look at improving, the option for a Fansite:<site name> kinda page setup? Although that might be overkill on namespaces...

Either way, at this point did you want Guild:The Sentinels moved to Guild:Sentinels Online Gaming ?

Thanks Cio! I still get the error that more than one form exists when saving an edit for Sentinels Online Gaming.... but it seems to save and is working so no big deal.

Thanks! When I get back from school I'll update the software and look at how to make that error go away.

I have noticed that anyone can edit any guild page on Wiki. Is there a way that only guild moderators can edit the page? Is there a password lock i am missing? This doesnt seem to be a good setup that any person can view and edit any guilds page on Wiki and edit it.

Unfortunately no,

The base nature of a Wiki is that anyone can edit it as it is just plain-text entry on a page. With luck no-one will maliciously edit a page, if they do then we will step in as admins and lock the pages and do the updates as requested by the user (IE: via the pages talk page). There MAY be third-party addons to allow the use of such a thing but they would not be in a form that is stable for use on a production wiki such as Telarapedia. If page naming becomes an issue between guilds we can easily work around that with creation of a Guild:Name (server) entries. In all my wiki admin time I've only had one problem with this so far. Thankfully it was resolved with the above method.

Thanks... Lets hope that this doesn't become a problem. Not thinking that it will since i could only hope that people are more responsible than this to make any changes. But i do see a recent changes page so that if anything is changed they are tracked by WHO changesd it so they can be caught. Keep up the good work guys the site looks good so far

Bumping this topic slightly, because it does bring up a point that *might* be considered for addition to Policies. I'll start out with an example:
  1. Guild A has created their page.
  2. Guild A has uploaded their image
  3. Guild A has not appropriately named said image (Guild_Guildname), so it doesn't end up being properly categorized.

Now, if I go through and peruse through uncategorized images, I can see dozens at least that are done this way. If I make a change, it could be construed as being invasive.

In a case such as this, is it acceptable to edit the image name, linking it appropriately, then updating the Discussion page for the guild to identify the nature of the changes? Also, of course, listing the 'reason' for change which is asked on page modification.

Should this be something that is made a policy, so that changes of this nature should be taken and handled with extra kid gloves, in order to sure that all pages/images are categorized correctly?
