Just throwing this out there to see what people think.
In terms of benefits, I see an immediate one in terms of more traffic and potentially more editors, both of which we need. Also, it means less having to bother around in Linux for the two VPS I am using for the various wikis today (but the extra traffic is the main draw). Nothing would really change other than a single ad on the page and they would be hands-off in terms of operations, etc.
Any comments?

A wiki is only as good as its contributors - won't you help out?

I say that the easier it makes things on you, the better. That way you can focus more on the wiki than the server side of things. I personally HATE server stuff, I much prefer playing around in the stuff the server hosts...
Just my two copper.
Curse does have some crazy ads and stuff on it's own site and some of the forum fansites associated with it, but I took a look at the wikis and didn't see much obtrusiveness. Only the information re: the Curse Network in the footer.

Just get it set in stone that if the wiki becomes that popular, they don't throw more ads in!
or keep hosting it yourself, which is more satisfactory?
I mean, what about upgrades / addons. Can you still do that?

| Well it wouldn't have much in the way of strings. I'd still be able to keep doing addons and things like that. Right now they also have wowpedia (the wowwiki guys moved) and it's not ad-laden.

Hello :)
|
First of all hello New 'Editor in Training' here. I am a web developer and iPhone app developer by trade, and I love gaming. I was helping out a bit over at the 'Wikia' Rift Wiki but I liked the organization and details of this one more, so I am flitting about seeing what I can help out with and add.
Perhaps I can offer assistance with hosting/server related issues as well?

Hi there, Xivory! Thanks for coming on over - that site did an export of Telarapedia to start their's originally ( as did another rift wiki)... Sorry for the delay in response but I'm busy with school for another 10 days or so (Master's degree). Honestly just jump in - if you browse around you'll see lots of stuff needs work. Mostly it revolves around putting in data from betas (since a lot is missing), but we do need a lot of template work, etc.
Hosting is sorted out, really. I'm on a big VPS provider and just clicked 'resize' the other week.

Doing another bump on this. Now up to $100/mo on servers and it's just annoying to maintain all of them. If they can give us the wowpedia treatment, I'm pretty happy with it personally.

| It shouldn't really change, but we'd have exposure from a site that gets 13 million visitors plus some aded advertising I hope. Would have to make sure about ad overload and stuff of course. But they run wowpedia and it isn't overloaded.

I would say that if it makes life easier, then have at it!
Being an administrator of my own systems as well, I can't hardly agree enough that there comes a time when it just makes more sense to let someone else shoulder the backend burden. The Curse visibility as well would be a godsend.
Awesome work here so far. I'll help with whatever is needed. I have extensive tWiki experience, and although this is Mediawiki, it's close enough to be familiar.
Cheers!

Thank you and welcome, Pri!
Glad to see someone else with wiki experience (we have a few now). Yeah the main thing is the wiki is growing quite rapidly and it's getting a bit hard to maintain I think.
