[edit] Overview
Born from the minds of players with over a decade of MMO-roleplaying experience, and half that in guild leadership, The Oathsworn is a Kelari cultural cabal based in Trion Worlds’ upcoming MMORPG: RIFT. With a core membership of players whose interests vary greatly and with equal passion, our goal as a guild is to establish an environment of high-quality roleplay, intense PvP campaigns, and competitive PvE victories. While we might never be the best of the best, we know where our goals lie and always strive for them, and are looking for new members who share that philosophy. We welcome the hardcore raiders, the skilled PvPers, and even the most casual roleplayers who rarely gain a level. The important thing to us is a dedication to the way you want to play, but remember that beneath everything, you had best be a roleplayer!
As a heavy RP guild, we take great pride in building engaging, cohesive stories out of the core game. No half-vampire catgirls here; The Oathsworn are proud Kelari, returned from the soulstream to resurrect their culture, to defend their world, and to claim victory over the Guardians. We intend to delve heavily into the Kelari spirituality, and our guild name is derived not only from the Blood Oath which all members must swear, but from the spiritual pacts they will make during their journey through our ranks. The guild is governed by a council of six priests, each representing one of the planar affinities: Life, Death, Fire, Water, Air, and Earth. Each priest has his or her own motives, alignment, and inevitably a command over a division of the guild. Amidst working towards the race’s collective future, members might find themselves at odds with one another as they play in the precarious game of chess between the priesthood, and vie for their patron’s favor. There is of course plenty of room for personal growth as well, and what may be the guild’s initial structure may not be what one finds in the years to come…
[edit] Recruitment Info
Applications are currently OPEN
Before joining The Oathsworn, you should be familiar with our rules, our style, and our application procedures and expectations which can be found right here in this section. We aim to have a clear application system with simple but open-ended requirements, and believe that applicants should be able to discern whether or not they are a fit for our guild before even submitting their application. If there is ever anything you’re unsure of, please feel free to contact Lior on the forums and he’ll be happy to assist you.
Remember that The Oathsworn has a strict 18+ age restriction, and is only open to members of the Kelari race. What We’re Looking For
We aren’t interested in building up numbers for the sake of numbers, or imposing our RP philosophies on the larger community. Our goal is the same that our existing members have shared since 2007: a tight-knit community of highly-skilled players in either RP, PvP, or PvE who combine their interests to create a well-rounded, motivated guild environment. The most important aspect of this equation is a mutual interest in roleplay, and so the first thing we look at in an application is how well the applicant can communicate his or her character concept. Clear ideas that build from the bottom-up (i.e. the provided game lore and world) rather than the top-down (player-imposed concepts) are crucial, as is an interest in using RP as a tool to enhance the game experience rather than to impose personal storylines on others. New roleplayers are welcome, but will be encouraged and expected to do their fair share of learning before being accepted to the guild. To this end, we are only interested in those new roleplayers who exhibit core traits generally considered conducive to productive roleplay.
We highly recommend against clichés; the storyline for Rift and particularly for player-characters is extremely diverse and open-ended. Make good use of the opportunity! In addition, we do not accept “secret” characters”. It is impossible for us to get a feel for who your character is if he or she is meant to follow the dark-and-mysterious trope. If there are absolutely some elements of your concept that you either do not wish to share or have not fully fleshed out yet, think of creative ways to explore your character in spite of that when filling out your application. The less we know, the less likely we’ll accept the application. If You’re Into PvP
If PvP is your thing, then you may find yourself comfortable amongst The Oathsworn. Many of our members are dedicated PvPers, and while we neither ask nor expect our full membership to participate, there shouldn’t be any lack of interest. That being said, we do prefer that our PvP-minded members are more interested in the thrill of the playstyle than any clear bragging rights or misplaced desire for carnage and violence. Understand that while your interests will be fostered within the guild, we cater to all three playstyles and not everyone will want to engage in the hardcore warfare that you might. Mutual respect is a must.
Additionally, while we appreciate the desires to contribute, we have no need for OOC “tactical leaders” of any sort at this time. Most of our non-competitive PvP will come through RP rather than the core game, and our overall playstyle will reflect this. If You’re Into PvE
Group content and raiding is a great passion of The Oathsworn’s leadership, and we are eager to get our hands on what Rift has to offer. Because PvE is a much more controllable environment than PvP, we make every effort to secure success amongst those interested and take the process very seriously. If you are interested in raiding, you will be expected to be able to commit to a weekly schedule, research and aspire towards the best gear, skill templates, and strategies for your role, and we will expect you to bring 110% to each raid. A prior raiding history in other MMOs helps us to understand your capabilities, but is by no means a requirement.
While we do wish to allow all our members to experience raid-level content, priority will be given to those who dedicate the time and resources to progression. As it becomes feasible, we will make every effort to bring along those who cannot commit to the heavier requirements of our core raid force, but it is by no means guaranteed. Additionally, we are not above suspending consistently poor players from our core raid force. Raiding is a team effort, and everyone must be able to pull their individual weight.
Goals
The Oathsworn’s leadership believes in clear, easy-to-follow rules that ensure an enjoyable play experience and positive community reputation. While most of our rules can be summed up as “don’t be a dick”, we have outlined each point specifically so that potential recruits can get an understanding for what is expected of them. Inappropriate behavior reflects negatively upon both the perpetrator and the guild as a whole, and we take infractions seriously.
1. This is Not a Democracy
We pride ourselves on our ability to foster a strong OOC environment while also providing a high-quality roleplaying experience. Chances are if you’re a member, you’ll become friends with the leadership quickly enough. While we’re more than happy to have open discussions and take everyone’s feedback into consideration, the final decisions in all matters of authority belong to the guild’s leadership. In the event that we are preoccupied in subjugating some helpless mountain village, golden avatars with flaming jewels for eyes shall serve in our place.
2. Play Fair
This one is pretty straightforward, but general good behavior is expected from all members in gameplay terms. Trade-scamming, MPK (outside of the normal realm of PvP), RMT, exploiting; these are all examples of gameplay behaviors that are not accepted in The Oathsworn.
3. Role-Play Fair
God-moding and meta-gaming are extremely disruptive to the overall atmosphere of roleplay on a server, and can easily spoil an otherwise enjoyable scenario. Our application process expects even the most novice roleplayers will research and familiarize themselves with these behaviors before joining, and we have a zero-tolerance policy for clear infractions.
4. Keep it In-Character
As a Heavy RP guild, we strive to maintain an immersive RP environment both for ourselves and our server community. Using local or /say in public areas for OOC conversation is unacceptable; the game provides multiple channels for such purposes, as does the guild.
5. No One Likes a Loot Whore
Fits over lost rolls, incessant begging for items, constant e-peening of how high your <insert Rift’s term for gearscore here> is; we don’t want to hear it, and we’ll put a stop to it if we do.
6. No One Likes a Whore, Either. (Well, Except Maybe Lonely Old Businessmen)
Although The Oathsworn doesn’t outright decry Erotic Role-Play (or ERP), the guild does believe that such subjects should be kept private between participating individuals and employs a don’t ask, don’t tell policy. Any mention of ERP in guild or public channels will be met with disciplinary action, as will reports of public ERP. The guild specifically defines ERP as explicit nudity or sexual content in a role-playing scenario. Mature themes are still okay, but if you’re unsure, ask an officer.
7. No, You Can’t Be Leggolasx
Members of The Oathsworn must adhere to a naming policy that remains appropriate to the Rift IP. Offensive names, references to real-life, nicknames, phrases, statements, well-known characters from established IPs; be original, kthx.
8. do u tyep liek dis?
Yeahno, find another guild. We’re roleplayers here, and we respect the written word. Replacing ‘you’ with ‘u’, ‘are’ with ‘r’, and any other horrible travesty against the English language is just lazy and obnoxious, and has no place here.
9. E-Stalking is a No-No
Members who engage in any harassment behavior of a sexual nature WILL be removed immediately. Our guild has no room for any predators, perverts or stalkers of any nature. We will deal with such matters privately and swiftly before it becomes a big issue.
10. Don’t Be a Dick
The Oathsworn only accepts adults, and its expected that we’re all mature enough to handle some coarse language and adult humor. That being said, maturity is also expected and these things should be used in moderation. Spamming guild chat with f-bombs and NSFW jokes, particularly when asked to stop by another member, will result in a trip to the Pit O’ Hungry Tigers.
11. Zero Drama Zone
We have a zero-tolerance policy for drama and will nip a volatile situation in the bud before it can get off the ground. We expect our members to be stable, mature, free-thinking individuals, and if you’re stirring up drama you’re likely not fitting those expectations.
