[edit] Overview

Who or what is MilitaryGamers.com?

The short answer is we're an ever-growing community of prior and current US military service members who share a common interest in gaming. We're the online community for US military gamers everywhere. We weren't the first to attempt this, and we've been imitated as well. Regardless, we're currently one of the most successful organizations attempting to accomplish the mission of uniting this unique group of gamers together in one community. With hundreds of MilitaryGamers.com and MilitaryGamers.com Auxiliary members around the globe we're spreading our message and attracting new members daily!

Our community was originally founded in 2007 by Lucas O. Wilson, a USMC Sergeant, under the name Brothers in Arms. Brothers in Arms was a gaming clan in an MMO game that only accepted US military members. We had a slow start as can be expected with a niche group like ours and getting the word out was hard. We didn't have much going on at that time so enticing new members to join was difficult. Much to our dismay, we soon discovered that the name "Brothers in Arms" seemed to be fairly common in the gaming sphere so our community also lacked an individual identity which set us apart. After several months of disappointing results, there was a lull in which Brothers in Arms faced some crippling issues including the unexpected disappearance of the original volunteer website host and a few weeks later, the website itself. Upon losing the website and the ability to contact the vast majority of the original members, Brothers in Arms officially dissolved. Wilson went back to the drawing board and educated himself on some of the various aspects of web design and administration. However, the goal of creating a far-reaching community specifically designed for those gamers who served in America's military remained the same. Lucas created a new website and began actively recruiting new members.

In 2008 we reforged ourselves as MilitaryGaming.net. Under this new name we were able to establish ourselves and attain a unique identity. We were also blessed to pick up some tireless staff members along the way who truly believed in our mission and were willing to sacrifice their own time to help MG succeed. Thanks to a very passionate staff, we quickly solidified our policies and began a very "grassroots" approach to finding new members and keeping them engaged. We also began actively networking and seeking out affiliates willing to lend a hand. It has been our die-hard members, a steadfast dedication to our principals, and the common goal of becoming a household name for service members everywhere that has driven us ever forward. MG has always managed to adapt and overcome any obstacle which has stood before us. We have also earned the respect of some fantastic supporters and affiliates who possess a desire to see our community succeed as well.

In 2010, after years of waiting, we finally acquired the domain MilitaryGamers.com. Originally this was our first choice for a domain and a brand, but it was unavailable to us at the time of our reforging. We completed a full conversion to our new name shortly after. When you see the name MilitaryGamers.com in a game or associated with an organization, you know you're going to encounter US military members who are honest, mature, respectful, and dedicated. MG members continue to embody the same characteristics and principals they did while serving as members of the US military and have helped us develop an honorable reputation that we're proud of.

In late 2010, by popular demand, MilitaryGamers.com launched the MilitaryGamers.com Auxiliary. The MG Auxiliary, "MGA" for short, is a support division of MilitaryGamers.com and MGA members work directly with and game alongside MG members. MGA membership is open to those who have not served in the US military but still wish to show their support for the troops. For those spouses, family members, friends, Delayed Entry Program (DEP) members, Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) members, foreign military allies, and others who have always wanted to have a more direct role in MG, this was the opportunity they'd been waiting for.

We're continuously working to increase public awareness for our organization and others with similar goals devoted to supporting the men and women of the US military. We're continuing to partner with these groups in an effort to provide an even more rewarding experience for our members and to give something back to our soldiers, Marines, sailors, and airmen everywhere.

As gamers ourselves, we realize that not every game will be a huge success and people, by nature, will inevitably move on from one game to the next, some quicker than others. We strive to connect with each of our members on a personal level and make them feel like they've finally found the last gaming group they'll ever need to join. Many of our members have formed lasting friendships that have reached across the boundaries of the internet to positively affect each others' lives. We want all of our members to feel at home here at MG and we sincerely hope that they will remain with us even after the newness of the latest game release has worn off.

Our members stick together and the bonds we share run deeper than most other gaming communities can attest to. We've walked many of the the same paths and can truly relate to one another in ways that most civilians will simply never understand. It is camaraderie such as this that adds a new dimension to our individual gaming experience as well as our lives in general.

If you serve or have served you should check us out. There's nothing to lose and plenty to be gained. Come help us build on our success in giving something back to those who were willing to risk all.

[edit] Recruitment Info

There are three basic categories of users here in our community, those who've completed the registration process, MG members, and MG Auxiliary members.

Registration is a process that is handled automatically when the registrant creates an account and replies to the e-mail confirmation. Expressing your interest in an MG or MGA membership is as easy as making a choice during registration, or by editing your user profile. Each member profile is reviewed and upgraded manually by an MG staff member.

Registered users have limited access to our site and forums and can't take advantage of any member services or benefits.

MG members have full access to all benefits and services we currently provide including access to the various non-public forums, private voice chat and game servers, the privilege of wearing the "MG" tag when competing in online games, the ability to join any of our in-game branches, and can further benefit from any special offers we may get from the gaming industry.

MG Auxiliary members have access to benefits and services as well. MGA members have extended access to the forums, access to our public voice chat and game servers, the privilege of wearing the "MGA" tag in online games, and the ability to join our MGA or combined MG/MGA in-game branches. Auxiliary members may be eligible for others benefits where deemed appropriate.

US Military - MilitaryGamers.com membership is open to all service members of any US military branch, past or present. In order to become a full member, you must be 18 years or older and have at least completed a basic training course for your branch of service.

Civilians/Others - MilitaryGamers.com Auxiliary membership is open to anyone over the age of 18. Auxiliary membership is perfect for foreign military allies of the US, individuals in the Delayed Entry Program (DEP), Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) in college, friends, family, and those mature individuals who share a desire to show support for the US military.

The first step in becoming a member of MG or the MG Auxiliary is to register an account by clicking the "Register Account" button on the main menu at the top of the home page. We no longer have an additional application form to be filled out. Simply make sure that during your registration you choose the option at the bottom that applies to you and shows your interest in either MG or the MGA. If you've served in the US military, be sure to choose the option at the bottom of the registration form that says "Yes, I would like to become an MG member." If you've never served in the US military, but you're interested in joining the MG Auxiliary, choose the option "Yes, I would like to become an MGA member." Once you reply to the verification e-mail and log in, your account is active as a registered user, but you're not a member just yet.

The second and final step is that a senior MG staff member will review your profile. If you meet the requirements for MG or the MGA and you've set the option in your profile that you're interested in joining, we'll upgrade your membership status. You may be asked to provide clarification or more information. If your profile does not contain enough information to meet the minimum requirements it will not be upgraded.

While we do our best to welcome each new member into the community via private messaging on our site/forums, we're human, and sometimes we fail to send a welcome message. Check back often to verify the status of your membership. If several days have passed and your status hasn't changed from registered user contact an MG staff member(CO, XO, MG Officer, MG NCO) by sending them a private message.
