Duke Letareus

[edit] General
Duke Letareus is the first boss in the Greenscale's Blight raid instance. He is a basic gear/responsibility check for a raid, with a couple of important fight mechanics to manage and a relatively short enrage timer. The fight is broken up into two phases, the kite phase and the kill phase.
[edit] Fight Mechanics
- Cleave - duke has a frontal cleave. Anyone in front of him that isn't a tank will probably die.
- Shamblers - these spawn in the 4 alcoves around the room. When killed, they generate a slowing field, which is used to keep Duke from killing the tank during a kite phase.
- Kiting - every 25%, Duke will enter an enraged state. He'll rush after the tank, at this point you'll need to kill shamblers to create slowing fields and keep him from killing the tank. DPS has to remain on Duke, because he will not leave the enraged state until he's been sufficiently damaged. During this time, he will do constant frontal cleaves for inflated damage, which will quickly murder anyone standing in the way.
- Ground Brownies - From the start, brownies will consistently spawn. These need to be picked up by the tank who is not on Duke. After every other kite phase, it's prudent to kill them due to target limitations on tanking AE abilities.
- Ground Fairies - starting at 50%, ground fairies will spawn infrequently which cast two spells: Fae Blast, and Fae Barrage. Blast can be safely ignored, but failing to interrupt the Barrage will result in heavy raid damage and quickly wipe your group.
- Air Fairies - starting at 75%, air fairies will spawn that nuke people in the raid. Designating a ranged DPS to take them out will help cut down on the damage from these significantly.
[edit] Strategy
[edit] Raid Assignments
- 2 Tanks - 1 for Duke, 1 for ground brownies.
- 2 Interrupts - This can be anyone that isn't responsible for shamblers, and has a low reuse interrupt. Specify one to stand by the entrance, and the other to stand near where Duke stands before being pulled. They should be on Duke until 50%, then break off and start looking for fairies.
- 1 Air Fairy DPS - Put a good ranged DPS on them, and have them dedicated to killing air fairies except during the kite phase.
- 2 Shambler DPS - Two people should be on shambler duty, the one who takes the shambler to the left of Duke should be a ranged DPS so they can continue to hit Duke.
Two healers for duke's tank, one for the brownies tank and one for raid healing should be sufficient.
[edit] Workflow
When you're ready, have your duke tank pull him to the right into the alcove, facing away from the raid. The healers and ranged DPS should remain generally clustered in the center. The two people on shambler duty need to dps their shamblers down to 10%, in preparation for the first kite phase. When Duke enters the kite phase, the raid's ranged DPS should kill the shambler closest to Duke to pop the slowing field as the tank runs through. Then run down along the wall to the next shambler, and repeat. After this shambler dies, the tank should take a wide U turn and begin to run Duke back to the original pull location. Do not take him through your raid, instead walk him back the way you came.
After the first kite phase ends, air fairies will begin to show up. The two members on shambler duty should again bring their shamblers down to 10%, and again after every subsequent kite phase. When Duke enters his second kite phase, use the same method as before. When he comes out of this kite phase, the two interrupters should go to their respective locations and watch for ground fairies. It's important to only have two up at a time, but NOT at the cost of pulling DPS off of Duke during a kite phase.
At this stage, all of Duke's fight mechanics are on the table. Continue to manage the various adds, and hopefully he'll be in the bag.
